Delft, the Netherlands – July 1, 2025 — On Friday, June 27, CarbonX welcomed Chantal Zeegers, Rotterdam’s Councillor for Climate, Building, and Housing, for an exclusive working visit to its facility in Delft.
The visit included a closed-door roundtable discussion on positioning The Netherlands in the European Battery Supply Chain. Spotlighted was CarbonX’s mission to establish an independent, European supply chain for battery technology—an essential step in advancing energy resilience and sustainability across the continent.
Councillor Zeegers is delighted to learn about the development of the alternative to graphite import for battery products. “It serves the growing need for batteries and it makes us less dependent from import. A promising boost for our local economy, and local production is more environmentally friendly.”
A key highlight of the visit was the official presentation of CarbonX One— Europe’s first facility dedicated to the production of battery anode materials. By securing 12GWh this factory enables the production of 120.000 cars. This announcement was followed by a lab tour through CarbonX’s cutting-edge battery test facilities, where councillor Zeegers personally initiated a new LFP battery stability test cycle for the next generation of CarbonX batteries. This battery will run for at least 2,5 months, forecasted to exceed a 1000 cycles.
Among the attendees were representatives of the Energy Transition Fund that supports CarbonX, the Municipality of Rotterdam, the Ministry of Climate and green Growth, the Port of Rotterdam, and investor InnovationQuarter.
